PAINT PARTY FRIDAY

It's Friday!
Christmas is over and it's time to relax ♥
I know I totally pushed myself too hard to do things for as I'm sure many of you have too. Now it's time to set back , listen to some good music and restore ourselves.
I'm enjoying the soundtrack from my very first ever "Grateful Dead" concert in 1973.
Thanks to my beautiful daughter who knows how to make her Momma HAPPY ♥♥♥♥♥
This weeks art is the completed mixed media collage painting I did for my sister. She loved it.

Wishing you all a

Art Journal Journey

Peace on Earth

I'll be busy finishing up those last minute gifts and cooking. Then spending lots of time with family and friends . So this will more than likely be my last collage for the year.
Enjoy the season and be true to yourself.

Paint Party Friday

It's Friday Again ♥
Time to take a short break from all of the holiday prep and share  a little art with friends.
THANK YOU EVA  & KRISTIN!!!
Without you Friday's just wouldn't be the same :)
Congrats to Tammy for being the Featured Artist of the Week. Love her splatter paintings. ♥♥♥♥♥
I only sent out 3 Christmas cards this year... may send a few more that I am sure will probably be late. But I wanted to make my own this year and I keep getting side tracked with other gift projects.
Here's one of the cards I sent...

I've worked some more on the gift for my sister...
... now I need to decided what to do with the dresses.
Other creative gifts I have been making are felted wool projects .

The hat was crocheted with wool yarn and then felted an shaped. The mittens were sewn from wool sweaters I purchased at a resale shop and felted before making the mittens. I have more mittens to make yet and maybe one more hat.

I also re-crafted two cookie tins foe tea bags.

Paint Party Friday

Once again it's Friday and time for sharing art and having fun. First off THANKS to Eva and Kristin for making all of this AWESOMENESS
happen every week!!!
Then CONGRATULATIONS to
MARJI
for being chosen as the
FEATURE ARTIST OF THE WEEK!
What a stunning Jay you shared last week ♥

This week I have a WIP in progress to share. I started this back in the summer and didn't like at all how it was going so it got set aside. This week I ran across it again and decided to rework it and head a totally different direction with it.
I forgot to take a picture before I started reworking it :( but this is where it is now.

It's a photo of my sister and I from when I was 15 and she would have been 12. I am at the point with it where I am going to start painting again and keeping my fingers crossed that it will come out like I hope. It will be her Christmas present if it does .
I also started another piece that it about ready to start painting too....

Not a whole lot of art time right now as Christmas is getting to close to happening :)
Last night I filled 75 teabags with Herbal Blends from the Herbs I grew in my garden this year. I was going to try and make containers for them... but time is too short so I will be picking up something to put them in over the weekend.

Art Journal Journey

Having fun and Being SILLY :)

While watching TV and eating chocolate Kisses last night. I was for some strange reason flattening out each little wrapper as I indulged :) and the next thing I knew I was gluing them down in my journal .
YES many KISSES were sacrificed to create this whimsical little tree and I thoroughly enjoyed every one of them ♥

Sometimes you just have to do something for the fun of it.
I thought I'd share a few of the birds that hang around my feeders in the winter..
The Titmouse....

....the male  Downy Woodpecker...

....a Cardinal and the rear end of the Titmouse :)....

...American Gold Finch...

...Red Bellied Woodpecker...

...female Downy Woodpecker...

These are just a few of the many kinds that hang out at the feeders. Providing many hours of entertainment for me and the cats :)

ART JOURNAL JOURNEY----COLLAGE

It's that time of year!
All of the hustle and bustle to get things ready for the BIG DAY can get to be a little stressful.
One of my favorite ways to unwind is playing with my art supplies and this months challenge made it easy and fun.
I started with a pile of papers...

...which I tore and then glued onto my journal page... and forget take a picture of this stage :(
Next I added white gesso and texture paste to the page... followed with some color washes...

I was hoping more of the papers would show through but I got a little to heavy handed with the gesso. If you look close in person you can see the papers in the background.
Then I added my focal image and the words I had chosen to use.

All in all I'm happy with it and it has a personal message that I'm not sharing. You'll just have to come up with your own interpretation of it's meaning :)
Hope you are all doing well with your Holiday craziness!

Paint Party Friday

It's Friday
Thanks again to Eva and Kristin for sponsoring this amazing weekly event!
Congrats to Dia for being the featured artist this week . Your art is beautiful and hope you did well at your show.
I finished my commission piece this week and she loves it . It's slightly different than the one I did for my Mom.
11" X 14"

I have enjoyed doing these flowers so much I have decided to do a series ..
" OUT OF THE GARDEN"
I've been using photos from own garden that I took this  summer.
I have two smaller 12" X 12" canvas' started.

I've been working on a collage in my art journal also and it is almost done and I have another rough sketch started for painting of a face. So I have been keeping myself very busy and that doesn't even count the Christmas projects I've got going :)

Paint Party Friday November 28, 2014

Once again it's FRIDAY!
That fun day of the week we all get to share our passions and look at lots of yummy art from around the world! Thank You Eva and Kristin for putting up with us all these years and for hosting our favorite day of the week.
Along with the rest of my U.S. friends this week was busy for me with the Thanksgiving prep work and the over indulging in food on yesterday. I was still able to get some time squeezed in for art. One project only... but a major one. I finished the painting for my Mom that I shared the WIP of last week . I'm so happy with this one and it is going to be very hard to wait til Christmas to give it too here.
So here are a few of the WIP photos and then the finished painting.

Filling in the background and the leaves ...

Then starting on the big flower and finishing out the bud ...

....then shading the petals and adding little details here and there..

The final product...which is now wired and hanging in  the guest bedroom.

I did share it on Facebook earlier in the week and now I have a commission for a small version.
I have sketched out the piece and will probably get it painted nest week.

Hopefully it will turn out well too... commissions make me a nervous wreck :-/
I usually say no.
Some Random Thoughts for today.....

PAINT PARTY FRIDAY & ART JOURNAL JOURNEY

It's FRIDAY!!!
Thanks again to Eva and Kristin for being the creative drive behind this "ARTASTIC" weekly event that inspires so many of us.
Here it has been a rather strange week with a total lack of inspiration and skill. The first part of the week when I tried to force the issue ... everything was looking like some mutant creation out of a very bad science fiction movie. So I gave it a day or two of rest and tried again. Finally flowers were looking like flowers and squirrels were looking line squirrels. ♥
at Art Journal Journey the challenge for November is "Inspired by the Masters"  and since November is also the birth month of Georgia O'Keeffe I choose to do a big flower. The Echinacea .
Which just happens to be one of my favorite flowering herbs.

It also happens to be one of my mom's favorite colors and I have been thinking of doing a painting for her bedroom I decided on an Echinacea for her.

So far I'm really happy with how it's going and hoping my Muse doesn't take off on another flight of fancy and leave me stranded.
Neither are as mystical as a Georgia O'Keeffe but they are BIG flowers and I'm happy with them .
Winter weather is officially here and Ella cat has started her "Winter Sports Watching"

She sets there for hours watching the birds at the feeders. I have a video of her and it shows here head going back and forth just watching. So cute.

IT'S FRIDAY!!!! TIME FOR PPF AND AJJ

YEAH IT'S FRIDAY ♥
The day of the week we all get to share  and enjoy wondrous art ♥♥♥♥
It's been a low energy week here....over worked last weekend so paid for it the first part of the week and just been taking it slow and easy the rest of the week .
I got a couple of Mandala's done this week...

I used markers of various type on this and really like it. The down side is that I have serious bleed through on the back side. ..

I knew this would happen so I was careful to use a page that didn't have anything on the back side yet. A quick coat of white gesso will fix the page so that it is usable and no art was sacrificed :)
For Art Journal Journey this month we have "Inspired by the Masters" as our challenge. I chose Monet for this page.

I used water soluble oil pastels and gesso to create this page. The original below was done in oils..

I really enjoyed creating  this page. Monet has always been one of my favorites and I was blessed with the opportunity to see his work several years ago at the St. Louis Art Museum. My daughter was very young ...around 5 years or maybe younger at the time... I can remember her looking at one of the large Hay Stack paintings and her saying she wants to paint like that.  She did grow up to be an artist so the trip was worth while in many respects.
Monet still remains one her most favorite artist.
