Paint Party Friday

It's Friday!!!!!
It's SPRING and it's least for today :)
Since yesterday was the first day of Spring and the weather was actually feeling it I decided to do a flower painting. I watched a video on Carla Sonheim's blog
(I know the link won't work...but type it in and you'll get there I hope)
A quick art lesson with Diane Culhane.
It was fun and here is the results... you can tell I didn't follow the directions exactly :)

I started with a background I already had laying around ...almost forgot to take a picture of the before.

Started filling in the background

And then used a maker to outline and give the flowers detail.... kinda wish I hadn't done the details in the flower centers...but it's there so it stays. Did lighten them up a bit with alcohol and a Q-tip.

Then I decided I would do a cover on a new journal I'm starting for my garden this year.
We'll see how well I keep up with that :)

It's a Strathmore  5.5 X 8.5 inch mixed medium journal .

I hope to keep track of my garden progress this year with notes and drawings, small quick paintings and photos of my garden. We'll see how well I do with it :)

Some thoughts for today...

Don't forget to check out the other great artist at

  1. Carol, that is a fascinating and new-to-me technique. I actually like the light doodads in the flower centers. I think it adds to rather than detract. Lovely results. It is so much fun to learn new things from PPF artists.

  2. Love seeing your progress, and that gold color!

  3. Beautiful work, and great quotes! Valerie

  4. I love your flowers and the 'negative' space around! Thanks for the beautiful quotes!

    Smiles from Belgium, Saskia :)

  5. Wonderful work - and I love the inspirational quotes! Happy PPF!

  6. Your flowers are great and the techniques that went with it are a learning experience. I also enjoyed your quotes. Have a great weekend Carol! Happy PPF!

  11. Really love that flowerpainting. They look so energetic, if one can say that about flowers ... ;-) Lovely work!

  12. Carol I hope you do keep track of your garden with the journal and share with us. That would be fun! Love the front of the journal and your pot of standing up flowers makes me smile.
